Background:
Work Space is a rentable office space that operates out of hundreds of old factory buildings throughout the UK. They have developed old buildings into easy rentable office spaces and hot-desking areas for companies and/or people who do not require permanent residence. The brief was to develop bespoke artworks, wallpapers, interior and signage solutions.
Brief:
To develop bespoke artworks, wallpapers, interior and signage solutions to create a more consistent and welcoming work space.
Problem:
Work Space had been suffering a downward turn after covid. They realised that the interior design aspect to the business needed a
complete over haul. It felt clinical, dark, no personality and wasn't reflective of the culture and communities that they were wanting to achieve. They needed people to feel proud, excited and even educated about their environment.
Solution:
A deep dive into the historical buildings meant that we could build a fundamental design strategy to roll out into offices across the UK. Each space has a very unique history. The two projects I am going to show case here are examples of how bespoke artworks and wallpapers can invigorate as space as well as being historically respectful and create pride.
Process:
Site audits, workshops, customer journey, communication hierarchy, pause points, iconography, point of sale, tactical communication, brand guidelines, design strategy and principles.
These design principles are still being implemented and executed Nationally.
Project 1: Vox Studio
The old beer, then Marmite factory based in Vauxhall, London
Building History and Heritage:
Vox Studio is based in Vauxhall, South of the river Thames. The historical nature of the building is that it once was used by New London Brewery to brew and supply beer to their many establishments across London. In 1927, New London Brewery ceased trading and Marmite took over the factory as their headquarters.
Design Influences:
For this project, the design influences mainly came from factory workers, old beer bottles, campaigns, pub names, old & new marmite jars. The design direction took a more brightly coloured aspect and followed retro influences inspired by Marmite and designs from beer bottles, labels and beer mats.
Artwork:
Over 70 bespoke artworks needed to be designed. So I developed 4 design practices and routes to follow to keep the artworks consistent but also feel individualistic.

A restored tannery in Bermondsey, London
Building History and Heritage:
The Leather Market is based in Bermondsey. This building began life in the 19th Century as The London Leather, Hide and Wool Exchange.
Project 2: Leather Market
Design Influences:
For this project, the design influences mainly came from factory workers, old leather tools and architectural influences. The building has some unique structures, which were incorporated into the deisgn.
Artwork:
Developed 2 routes variations to compliment the building as well as the hertigage.
